Summer Sugar free Slushies

Summer Sugar free Slushies

Relaxing family days in the garden with a refreshing and fun drink at hand, come take a look at our Ninja Slushi summer garden day with sugar free drinks. This post is in collaboration with Very UK

The little person living in my house is, like any other 7 year old, obsessed with slushies. You can’t go to the cinema, a beach cafe or an event without being asked Pleeeease mum can I have a slushie. But I always say no as the bright coloured drinks are full of things not great for a little child. I however always wondered if you can make a healthier version so when Very.co.uk asked if we want to try out the new Ninja Slushi it was a big yes and the experimentation started as what is better then a fun family day in the garden, reading books, playing games all with a refreshing frozen drink in hand!

Let me tell you a little bit about the machine first, the Ninja Slushi uses a special RapidChill technology to freeze liquids into ice crystals. The machine has an auger that moves the liquid against the metal cylinder thats chilled from the inside, turning it into a delicious slush. You can get your own Ninja Slushi machine and at Very UK with their fast shipping you can be making delicious drinks in perfect time for the warm weather.

To make a slushie you need sugar, otherwise the liquid will just freeze solid, for our family recipes I din’t want to use sugar (or its chemically produced alternatives) but wanted to try using honey, its still sweet, its still has a high enough sugar content to slush but it’s a lot better for little people to drink.

Kiki and I make the lemonade together, she had so much fun squeezing the lemons :D You then add the honey and water, pour it into the Ninja Slushi machine and half an hour later you have a refreshing drink. The machine has very handy preset buttons and lets you know when your drink is ready, no need to figure out timings and temperatures. Find my lemon and honey slushie recipe below.

How cute are these little vintage cups! The recipe below made enough to fill ten of them, I think it will make around 4 tall glasses of slush. If you want to make more simply double the recipe, the vessel on the Ninja Slushi holds up to two and a half liters, and can keep it chilled for you for 12 hours, perfect for summer parties!

We used to use an ice crusher to make summer drinks but juices always ended up watered down with the crushed ice. The Ninja Slushi you don’t loose any flavour as the drink itself is chilled, no ice cubes are added. But why stop at slushies? The Ninja Slushi makes perfect Milkshakes too! (and frappe’s, frozen juice and frozen cocktails)

For a liquid to turn into a creamy, smooth milkshake you need fat. Full fat milk and double cream, I wanted to try to make a tasty non diary version instead and used coconut milk. Mixed with a few banana’s it turned into a perfect summer flavoured milkshake. Sweetened once again with honey but you could use coconut sugar or date syrup too. Find my diary free coconut and banana milkshake recipe below.

There are so many more drink to try in the Ninja Slushi! We want to try shop bought juice for a very lazy slushie, you simply pour it in and that’s it. Or use a smoothie or fresh juice straight from the blender, fruit juices are naturally high enough in sugar to really well. Which fruits would you choose

I also can’t wait to try and make frappe’s but that requires a whole new blog post :D Have a look at the kitchen appliances of Very UK for making your own delicious summer drinks.
