Make your own twisted candles
How lovely are the twisted candles you see on everybody's Christmas gift lists, in magazines and all over social media? So cute but so expensive to buy. Isn't it great that they are also so easy to make yourself? Check out my video to see
You need:
tapered candles, The coloured ones I used are from Tiger and they worked a treat
a tall vessel like a vase
a rolling pin.
warm and cold water
Fill your vase with warm water, don’t be tempted to have the water boiling hot as then the outside of your candle will melt completely before the inside is soft enough to twist. Let your candle sit in the warm water between 10 and 15 minutes until it is soft and starts to flop over the edge of your vase. Flatten the middle bit of your candle stick with your rolling pin, and gently twist it or bend it into shape. Don’t try to rush this being gentle really is key.
When you are happy with your shape change the warm water in your vase with cold water and put your candle back in the vase. The cold water will harden the candle in minutes, take it out, dry it off and they are ready to be used.
Wouldn't these make the best little Christmas gifts? Attach a candle to a card and leave them on the doorstep of your friends and family. That for sure would bring a smile to their faces in this lockdown Christmas.
Some candles are easier to twist and bend than others, I think paraffin and beeswax candles are the easiest to work with. make sure your candle is a solid colour as some are just white candles dipped in a layer of coloured wax. The white candles were trickier to bend but when I worked very gently they did twist nicely too.
What are you plans with Christmas? We will be having a quiet one without any family as we are in the UK and in tier 4 which has strong restrictions. 2020 Christmas sure will be a different one but with all these candles it will be a cozy one :)
