If you follow my Instagram stories so will have noticed my mum makes a lot of very cute items of clothing for Kiki. She did that for me and my sister too when we were little, I think most of our wardrobe was handmade. About time I made something for Kiki too that she can wear :D When the lovely people of Poppy&Jazz (the kids side of Sew Over It) asked if they could send me a pattern and some fabric I of course said yes right away.

There are plenty of patterns to choose from but as I really struggle to find nice jumpers for Kiki I opted for the Strawberry Sweatshirt. I also got send a meter of cotton jersey to make the sweatshirt. Have a look at all the Poppy&Jazz patterns here.

The fabric I got send was a very pale yellow, a colour I didn't think would go very well with Kiki pale skin tone so I got my black fabric paint out and give the fabric an all over polka dot. Unfortunatly when I hung my fabric to dry on the washing line a gust of wind folded the still wet fabric double resulting in a lot of smudges but in a way I rather like these inperfect dots.

I haven’t followed a pattern, especially a sewing pattern ,since I was a teenager. I often buy a sewing magazine with the intention to make something for Kiki or me but one look at the instructions and I feel confused. They really have a way of written instructions that I simple don’t understand. Luckily the Poppy&Jazz patterns are so well written it is a breeze to follow! They even have handy images with every step so you really can’t mess it up. And it was quick too, the jumper took me around an hour and a half to make.

I traced the paper pattern in a size 3-4 years. Kiki is only 2 but she is rather tall and I really like oversized sweaters on her, especially as she almost always wears skinny jeans or leggings. The 3-4 is a perfect fit for her, the neckline is a bit big I might have to adjust that for a next jumpers. Yes I said next jumper, I loved sewing this sweatshirt so much I’m already planning a few more!

Kiki loves her new jumper! I tried it on her when I only had the front and back bodices attached to the neckband and she didn’t want to take it off. Think she thought I made her a poncho :)

I also want to try to use this sweater pattern and turn it into a dress. Instead of the waistband I will sew on a skirt, think that will look super cute!

The Poppy&Jazz Strawberry Sweatshirt pattern is in the sizes newborn to 6 years and besides the instructions it also gives you some handy tips on which fabric to buy and how to read their pattern. I really think this sweater is a fool proof make!

I think adding the polka dots to the plain fabric made the jumper perfect for little Kiki, instead of wasting the fabric I wasn’t keen on I simply looked in my craft stash and gave it a new look. We don’t like waste over here :)

Have you made clothes for yourself or your kids before? What is your favourite pattern? I would love to see your makes!

Sew Over It, the company Poppy&Jazz is the kids line off, also have sewalong tutorials on Youtube. Have a look here for the Strawberry Sweatshirt sewalong.
