DIY marble table 2.0

My most watched video on my Youtube is the tutorial of the faux marble table. A table that I bought for a tenner and gave a makeover with some white paint a marble contact paper. This video has over a quarter of a million views. Great but it really is one of my most awful video’s, my microphone stopped working so the start of the video had to be subtitled, we only just moved so I filmed the tutorial without my tripod that was still hiding in a box somewhere. So typical right? Worst video but the most views!

So in the summer of 2018 I thought it was time to do an updated video, yes 2018…. I filmed the tutorial but as I was in the middle of building and shooting for my pallet wood book I never got round to edit the video and then forgot about it. Until this week when I was looking on my hard drive for some old images and came round the marble table project. It is a lovely project so I quickly edited the video, filmed some new bits and here you have it. Marble table DIY version 2.0 :D

I love using contact paper! It gives an instant effect and it is so easy to use. Just take your time, only peel back 5 cm of the backing paper at the time and push all the bubbles away with a squeegee or credit card and you have a great looking table in minutes.

I bought this table to use as a photo shoot prop for my Pallet wood projects for outdoor spaces book, you can see the images of the book above. Doesn’t the marble top look great against the pallet wood wall?

The table was only £30 but it came with a rather cheap looking table top, one roll of marble contact paper and the table looks a lot more stylish. I used d-c-fix adhesive film in white marble. You can pick this up in your local hardware shop or on Amazon. The vinyl is easily removable so if you fancy a different look just peel it off I use the d-c-fix vinyl in a lot of my projects as it gives your furniture an instant makeover without you putting too much effort in. I really want to try it on something a but bigger like a kitchen counter, have you ever done that?

With its nice marble top this table is a real allrounder, I currently use it as a sewing table, perfect for the small space I have in our attic room. But it also is great to use if you need an extra table for when you have guests over. It being 2020 we haven’t had any guest all year but one day we hopefully will have friends over for diner again. You might see this marble pop up in a lot of my tutorials too as it photograph great and I love using it to shoot smaller sewing projects on.

The table top is still in perfect condition two years after I filmed this tutorial even though I use a lot of sharp object on it like scissors, pins and needles. Even the corners are still holding strong. Maybe me editing this video two years later was a good thing, it shows that the contact paper really is durable :)
