Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in DIY, interior and lifestyle. Hope you have a nice stay!

What I thrifted vs what I made of it

What I thrifted vs what I made of it

While looking for a chair I spotted this rattan sofa high up, balanced on a stack of other pieces and thought it might be perfect seat for the alcove in our bedroom. The rattan looked in good nick but the seating def needed some love and an update as it was rather stuck in the 90’s.

I cleaned the sofa, used the upholstery cleaner on the seat cushion and gathered material to make a new cover. The base is a drop cloth, an used one, I had left over and the coloured fabric are pieces of scrap cotton and linen. I cut the fabric in a few big shapes, a leaf, a moon and some circles. With my sewing machine I stitched the shapes to the drop cloth, you could use fabric glue as well for this but I prefer sewing them on.

I then draped the fabric around the original seat cushion and with needle and thread made it fit. And to make it look a bit nicer I stitched around the top of the cushion with a slip stitch creating a boxed edge.

An hour work and love how the sofa look now. It still has the vintage feel but with the new seat cover it fits our interior a lot better.
