Mini me desk tutorial
This tutorial contains a gifted item
Kiki, my toddler, loves sitting behind my desk, especially when I need to work. You might have seen on my Instagram she even has her own little keyboard so she can type along :) I thought the time might be right to get her, her own little desk and what better then build her the same desk as mine but smaller.
My desk is a tutorial in my book Pallet Wood Projects for Outdoor Spaces, it is designed as an outdoor table but works really well as a desk too. It is very simple to build too and a great project to use up wood scraps you might have in your shed/workshop. Have a look at my tutorial video.
I really love the pastel green legs against the untreated pallet wood timber, and the chevron details on the top makes the table just that little bit more interesting. It is a relatively easy build and you can have this table made in under two hours.
The chair Kiki is sitting on is a little Ikea hack I will post on here soon, the pen holder is a project that I posted on my Instagram in my crafting with Kiki series. It’s a milk carton that we turned into a bear plant pot, have a look at the tutorial here. The colouring sheet is from Djeco and the letter puzzle I picked up at Smyths toys several weeks ago. Great for teaching your tod the alphabet, so far Kiki has mastered the K from Kiki, the M for mama and rather randomly the T, maybe for cup of tea to go with her play shop?
To build the kids table you need:
A piece of sheet material as a base, I used a piece of 9mm thick MDF that used to be a notice board. You can use plywood too, anything between 6 mm and 12 mm will do.
Pallet wood planks , I used planks that are 97cm long, 10 cm wide and 9 mm thick. I used 3 planks for the top and one plank cut in half width ways for the side trim.
I also used a handsaw or use a mitre saw if you have one,
Palm sander
Pen
Wood glue
Screw driver
Hammer and nails (or a nail gun if you have one.)
Hair pin furniture legs 40 cm long
The pastel green hair pin legs are from The Hairpin Leg Company, when they heard I was going to make a smaller version of my original desk they kindly offered the smaller legs as a gift. For my own desk I had used 71 cm 3 rod legs, for the mini me version I used 40 cm 2 rod ones these furniture legs you normally use for benches.
All the wood I used for this table are left over bits from other projects, as the table is small you don’t need to have a great big supply of timber to start building. Four pallet wood planks and a piece of sheet material is all you need.
Kiki loves her little desk and I think the two desks next to each other are looking SO cute! What are the changes though she actually sits at her own little desk instead of worming her way onto my lap? I will keep you posted on that one :D
I hope you are all keeping well and not finding the being stuck indoors to tricky.
