A screwdriver that can also open wine bottles, grind spices and cut leather? Lets try it our by building a wine rack!

When Bosch Home & Garden asked me if I wanted to try out their latest IXO model and a few of its attachments I didn’t had to hesitate as I was just looking for a small screwdriver to use for little projects around the house. Those fixes and builds that just don’t require a big bulky, and heavy, drill driver. Have a look at the video below to see how I got on

I love how the wine rack turned out and how fun is it to use a power tool for building and cooking! The IXO isn’t going into the shed like the rest of my power tools, he will live in the kitchen so he’s always in reach for little jobs around the house.

To make the wine rack I used a piece of plywood that is 12 mm thick, 60 cm wide and 75 cm long. To make the bottle holders stand out a bit more I painted the board white. The straps I used are 2 cm wide and you roughly need a length of 2.5 meter in total. If you rather not use real leather you can of course opt for a faux one, just make sure the strips are strong enough to hold your bottles.

To hide the screw heads I used mirror screws, little caps that go around the screw giving the wine rack a nice finish. You can find these online in all different colours and dimensions, mine are 12 mm wide.

I really liked using the IXO, not only is it a nice and clean design. It is super light to hold, easy to use with the speed control trigger and it is the first power tool I own that you can charge with a micro USB, how handy!

I tried a few of the IXO attachments, at the moment there are 8 different ones from angle screw drivers, to spice mills and a drill piece. From the ones I tried I particularly loved the universal cutter as it enables the screwdriver to cut effortlessly through material of up to 6 mm thick. I think it will be come in very handy cutting up cardboard boxes for the recycling and it made cutting the leather strips for the wine rack an absolute breeze.
